The Fair Housing Education & Outreach Manager is position within Tenfold’s Housing Equality and Equity Institute (HEEI) responsible for organizing and assisting in the development and execution of community-based projects that train and empower residents to understand and assert their fair housing rights, educate landlords about their rights and responsibilities under fair housing and landlord/tenant laws, disseminate information about fair housing and the work of Tenfold, and ensure that Tenfold’s fair housing work is responsive to the concerns within our target communities.  The person is also responsible for managing programs and services at  Tenfold which are aimed at increasing opportunities for stability through access to decent, affordable housing for vulnerable members of our community who often fall into one of the fair housing protected classes.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in community outreach, advocacy, training, education, community organizing, or related field, OR, Associates degree and at least 5 years of directly related experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; proven ability to cultivate relationships with and establish
    networks and collaboration among a diverse set of stakeholders, including clients, partner organizations, community groups, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly listening, and writing; public speaking/training experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for combating housing discrimination or other civil
    rights violations, or related issues.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative yet work well within a team setting.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel; experience with other relevant software programs and with
    managing social media accounts and/or websites helpful.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) language skills is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, social service agencies, fair housing, landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local housing laws, rules, regulations and programs to include rental assistance programs for low-income households preferred.
  • Understanding of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products and internet research required.
  • Ability to negotiate or mediate leases, damage claims, and landlord/tenant disputes.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, e.g. regarding processes, internal and external program synergies and problem solving.
  • Ability to remain objective and interact effectively with persons in stressful and/or sensitive situations.
